APPLYING SCHEDULE MANAGEMENT TO PRIVATE SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION: A CASE STUDY

Abstract

This study has as premise to evaluate the application and implementation of schedule management in a construction of a new school unit in the city of São Paulo, based on the tools and theories of PMBOK, with main attention on the creation, evolution and monitoring of the schedule. To better elucidate and solve the problems, a theoretical basis for this study was elaborated, and a bibliographic review on project management with a focus on schedule was performed, understanding its main points: maturity in project management, management methodology and evolution of the schedule. The approach of this study focuses on a private educational institution. Where it was possible to follow the implementation of the schedule management system and evaluate the descriptions of the project deliverables, activity durations, and results obtained using schedule management, control, and monitoring. We noticed that in this new unit there was a greater concern in developing project schedules and monitoring them, using the best schedule management practices, which ultimately led to a gain in efficiency. The result, observing the theory found in the PMBOK guide, achieved success in the length of the schedule and was the beginning of a modification in the company's construction system. Being able to meet the needs estimated at the beginning of the project, without generating great impact for the employees and providing benefits to the organization.
