PERCEPÇÃO DOS DOCENTES DE PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO EM CIÊNCIAS DA COMPUTAÇÃO QUANTO A UTILIZAÇÃO DE MECANISMOS DE APROPRIAÇÃO DE PROPRIEDADE INTELECTUAL: UMA PESQUISA QUALITATIVA
Abstract
The generation and dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge plays a fundamental role in society, as it directly contributes to a country's innovation potential and its social development. One of the most important players in the innovation ecosystem are Universities, especially their Postgraduate Programs; but is the knowledge produced by them protected and appropriated via Intellectual Property (IP) mechanisms in order to add value to innovation? In this context, the objective of this article is to verify whether professors use IP appropriation mechanisms to protect the intellectual assets produced by their research linked to their Postgraduate Programs. As this is exploratory qualitative research, an online questionnaire was applied to professors of Postgraduate Programs in Computer Science at Brazilian Universities. As a result of this analysis, it was highlighted that universities face many challenges to take ownership of their innovations through IP mechanisms, despite the creation of incentives for innovation. Even facing such challenges, professors reported that their graduate programs make use of appropriation mechanisms via IP.
